Tree of Knowledge

New graphite drawing on acid free recycled paper.
The contorted posturing is its own tracery that frames mini vignettes of paradise and paradise lost. Eve is blinded by the lure of knowledge to be as God. Her descent is the beginning of the unraveling devolution of our DNA.
Hidden within the image is a hidden trinity in Greek, one word and two phrases, that envelopes Eve. Above her shoulder is the word for ‘birth’ and ‘origin’ as Eve is the mother of all people. In the neck of the tree from the Garden of Gethsemane is a verb that binds the serpent, the dragon, to the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil with the promise “to see clearly.” The lower right corner contains the last phrase within a wicked eye formed by the twisted and bent branches behind the serpent upon which Eve descends that girds the image, “For me to live is Christ.” A foreshadowing of Eve’s and thusly humanity’s future, and reference to the scriptural prophesy of the Redeemer’s role.
